The officer of the Russian National Guard Special Forces Senior Lieutenant Alexander Potapov covered two civilians during a rocket and artillery shelling of the city of Izyum in the Kharkov region.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces opened canon artillery fire on the residential area of Izyum, as well as rocket fire from the American "HIMARS" MLRS. More than 20 shells fell on houses and streets. Several shells exploded in the local market, where at that moment there was a brisk trade. At that time, a convoy of the Russian National Guard was moving not far from the place of shelling – a group of the Special Forces unit was returning back after special targeted activities.
Immediately, the Rosguard Special Forces servicemen began to evacuate the panicked locals to a safe place. When another enemy shell exploded near the route to the shelter, the officer covered two civilians from the fragments. As a result, he received multiple shrapnel wounds incompatible with life. At the cost of his own life, the officer saved two civilians.
In total, thanks to the competent actions of the Rosguard Special Forces servicemen, more than 30 people were evacuated from the fire. As a result of the shelling, none of the civilians was injured.
