The 19th International Forum named after Ilya Starinov has ended in the Irkutsk Region. It has been held since 2005 on the initiative of combat actions veterans, veterans of the Rosguard and the public movement "Commonwealth of Siberian Warriors".
The grand opening of the event in Irkutsk began with a rally at the "Eternal Flame of Glory" memorial. Those gathered laid flowers and observed a moment of silence in memory of the soldiers who died in the battles at Khalkhin Gol. Later on, the participants went to Mongolia, where they attended military-patriotic events in the cities of Ulaanbaatar and Choibalsan for several days: they met with servicemen of the Mongolian presidential regiment, took part in the opening of the monument to Marshal Georgy Zhukov, attended joint Russian-Mongolian military exercises and held a lesson in courage for students of the Ulaanbaatar branch of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
The conference was attended by more than 40 veterans, participants of combat actions from several regions of Russia, as well as Mongolia.
“This year, the forum is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet-Mongolian troops in the battles at Khalkhin Gol. Its goal is to preserve the memory of the heroes of the Fatherland for the younger generation and pass on to them the rich military traditions of the countries that fought shoulder to shoulder for peace,” said Alexey Gonchar, assistant to the head of the Rosguard Directorate of Irkutsk Region for work with veterans, retired Colonel.
