The commemorative events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Stanichno-Lugansk region from the Nazi invaders, as well as the anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad, were held with the participation of the servicemen of the Russian National Guard Troops in the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR).
A solemn rally took place in one of the settlements of the LPR. In addition to the Rosguard servicemen and employees, who perform the tasks of the special military operation, schoolchildren, local residents, and representatives of the rural administration took part in the event.
“80 years ago, our great-grandfathers accomplished a feat by liberating the cities and villages of the Lugansk region from the invaders. Today we pay tribute to their memory. History repeats itself, and decades later, the descendants of the victors, have to fight fascism on this earth again”, said Colonel Sergey B., an officer of the Rosguard, speaking to the assembled residents and military personnel.
The rally participants honored the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the Great Patriotic War memorial.
Soviet troops liberated the center of the region - Stanitsa Luganskaya - and a number of settlements from the Nazi invaders in January 1943 during the offensive operation "Little Saturn". The territory was occupied for 182 days, and during this time almost 500 civilians were shot, thousands of people were killed in the concentration camps located on the territory of the region, almost two and a half thousand people were deported to Germany, most of them did not return.
